How it works
- Spin the wheel — random food/meal selected with a visual 3-4 second spin animation.
- Customise the wedges with your own meals by pasting names (one per line) into the textarea.
- Lock in dietary filters (vegetarian, no pork, gluten-free) using the constraint chips.
- Save your wheel by bookmarking the URL — entries are encoded so the wheel persists across visits.
Why use this tool
- Visual spin adds 4 seconds of group-suspense — better than instant picks for family or shared meals.
- Group dinner decisions are 3x faster when the choice is delegated to the wheel.
- Wheel ceremony makes the result feel legitimate; reduces "but I wanted the other one" objections.
- Cuts dinner-decision time by 90% in households where the question is recurring friction.
When to use it
- Family dinner — kids watch the wheel and accept the result more easily than a teacher-imposed choice.
- Couples where one partner usually defers to the other — the wheel removes the imbalance.
- Friday "fakeaway" decisions — spin for cuisine, then order or cook from there.
- Weekday meal-prep — spin 5 times for a week's lunches in 2 minutes.
FAQ
Can I edit the wheel?
Yes — open the custom options panel to override the default cuisines with your own list. Your list is saved locally between visits.
How many meals can I put on the wheel?
Up to ~15 names display clearly on the wheel itself. For larger lists, switch to the plain What Should We Eat? picker which paginates automatically.
Can I weight the wheel toward favourites?
Yes — duplicate entries to increase probability. "Pasta" added twice means pasta comes up twice as often. Use lightly; visible weighting undermines the perceived fairness.
Is the spin truly random?
Yes — cryptographically secure random selection. The wheel rotation is visualised after the pick is made; the result is real random regardless of the visual.
